Find your computer name, model and operating system version

When you open a ticket, telling us which computer has the problem helps us find it quickly and give the right instructions. Here is how to find the computer’s name, model, serial number and operating system version.

Windows 11 and Windows 10

Device name, model and Windows version

  1. Select Start > Settings > System > About. (Shortcut: right-click the Start button and choose System.)
  2. Under Device specifications, note the Device name. On Windows 11 the model is often shown at the top of this page as well.
  3. Under Windows specifications, note the Edition (for example, Windows 11 Pro), Version (for example, 24H2) and OS build.

The Copy buttons on the About page copy all the details at once. Paste them straight into your ticket.

Quick check with winver

  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Type winver and press Enter.
  3. A small window shows the Windows version and build number.

Model and serial number

  • Press Windows + R, type msinfo32 and press Enter. In System Information, look for System Manufacturer and System Model.
  • For the serial number, look for a sticker on the bottom of the laptop, the back of the desktop, or under the battery. You can also open Windows PowerShell or Terminal from the Start menu, type Get-CimInstance Win32_BIOS | Select-Object SerialNumber and press Enter.

Mac

Model, macOS version and serial number

  1. Click the Apple menu in the top-left corner of the screen.
  2. Choose About This Mac.
  3. The window shows the model (for example, MacBook Air, 13-inch, M2, 2022), the chip or processor, memory, Serial number and the macOS name and version.

For more detail, select More Info…, which opens System Settings > General > About.

Computer name

  1. Open Apple menu > System Settings > General > About.
  2. The Name field at the top shows your computer’s name.

Phones and tablets

  • iPhone or iPad: Settings > General > About shows the name, model, iOS version and serial number.
  • Android: Settings > About phone shows the device name, model and Android version. Menu names vary by manufacturer.

What to send us

Include these details in your ticket:

  • Computer name (device name)
  • Manufacturer and model
  • Operating system and version (for example, Windows 11 Pro 24H2 or macOS Sequoia 15)
  • Serial number, if we ask for it (needed for warranty and hardware questions)

A screenshot of the About page works just as well as typing everything out.
